Returning from his international residency, we had the opportunity to sit down with XMUNASHE at his debut Brisbane show for the opening of BIGSOUND 2025. Following an electrifying and intimate performance and a reunion with his bandmates Josh and Jonti, we had the pleasure of speaking with Munashe about his artistry, upcoming album, and evolving relationship with music.

Have subcultures shifted from what they once represented? The ongoing debate often circles around whether we’re witnessing the death of subculture or simply its evolution. Subcultures remain a dynamic interplay of culture, identity, and environment, constantly absorbing and adapting to change. Is the essence of subcultures lost through digital technology?

Evolving from family crests to designer symbols, logos have always been used to communicate transaction, status and privilege. They promise identity and belonging. However, we find that sometimes it just doesn’t seem to fit.
